My first musical composition was written for a seventh grade school project. It was a short piano piece entitled "Dance of the Gnomes," which might sound like one of my off-beat jokes but isn't. I received a B.S. in Biology from Virginia Commonwealth University and was a first year medical student at the Medical College of Virginia before dropping out near the end of my second semester. Afterwards I continued my formal study of music, earning a B.M. in Music Composition from VCU and an MFA from the Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program at NYU.
I am also an avid marathon runner. I have run seven so far; in April 2008 I completed my first Boston Marathon. I currently live in Queens, NY and love it here.
As best as music can be described in words, I seek to convey wonder, mystery, pain, and laughter, very often simultaneously, through my music. I try to find beauty in harmonic dissonance and to balance it in equal measure with moments of consonance. By embracing imagination in both my music and in life, I believe both can continue to evolve, surprise, and fascinate.
